Member-only story
Attending a literature festival had been on my mind for a long time, but I never tried to go. When I found out Banaras was hosting one, I was happy. It was finally happening where I live.
I didn’t plan much; I just glanced at the Banaras Lit Fest schedule before heading in.
I do not like associating myself with a ‘lit lover’ or an ‘avid reader’ — words you’ll often hear in these circles. I enjoy reading, reflecting, writing and sometimes meeting new people.
My curiosity and desire to learn take me to these spaces. I wanted to experience what it was like to be in a space filled with writers, intellectuals, artists, and poets. With this mindset, I entered the festival.
Arriving at the Lit Fest and the Blossoming Palash
The festival was held at Hotel Taj Ganges, known for its luxury and lush surroundings. As I walked in, a bright orange-red Palash tree caught my eye. The blooming flowers were impossible to ignore, demanding attention every time I passed.
The entrance had a rustic charm, decorated with baskets. As I walked further, I noticed a few places adorned with colorful Banarasi dupattas.
Like other famous literary festivals, this one had its aesthetic appeal. Everywhere I looked, something was happening — guests speaking, artists painting, participants moving from one event to another.
